Michael has recently taken up the role of Musical Director of Troon Chorus.  The choir are currently working on a programme of old and new choral works, which will be performed in concert in December 2012.

Friend Request Pending, starring Dame Judi Dench with original score by Michael Ferguson, has recently won the 2012 Aspen Shortsfest Audience Special Recognition Award, and the 2012 Rincon International Film Festival Director’s Choice Award. To date the film has also been chosen for the official selection of the 2011 BFI London Film Festival, 2012 London Short Film Festival, Berlin British Short Film Festival, Omaha Film Festival USA, Seattle International Film Festival, Palm Springs International Shortfest, CFC Worldwide Short Film Festival, Emden-Norderney Film Festival, East End Film Festival, and the Print Screen Festival Israel.

About Michael

Michael Ferguson is a Scottish-based composer of concert, choral and film music.MIchael Ferguson

Born in 1982, Michael grew up in Portstewart, Northern Ireland.  He studied Music at Edinburgh University, and graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 2006.  He was subsequently awarded an AHRC scholarship to undertake a Masters in Composition of Music for Film and Television at Bristol University, graduating in 2008 with Distinction.

Michael is steadily gaining a reputation as a composer of new choral and liturgical music.  He is currently Composer-in-Residence at St Mary’s Metropolitan Cathedral Edinburgh, where recent work has included Metropolitan Mass for SATB and organ, Mass of God the Father for unison voices and piano, and Christus factus est for unaccompanied SATB.

As a composer of music for film and animation, Michael’s music has appeared on BBC TV, at the BAFTA Scotland Awards, and at film festivals worldwide.
